"The narrative surrounding this prehistoric-looking creature is heart-breaking as he is sought out for his magnificent horn, slaughtered and left to die, even in protected reserves in Africa. As their numbers slowly dwindle, there is a race to save these extraordinary beasts from extinction. As heavy and muscular as this black rhino is, he manages to run at quite a pace and his hide is as tough as it looks. It was a challenge to paint this worthy male with all his wrinkles and dimpled leathery skin." by Jayne Galassi

Original Painting

Jayne completed the original painting in November 2018 on a ?" Wide × ?" High (A0) pure cotton canvas, primed with gesso and painted in Windsor and Newton oil paints. The original painting is currently still for sale and is included in this collection
